Pueblo Saddles

Saddles Pueblo was the saddle making capital of the world. Various styles of saddles on display with Lucky the horse who was used to display these saddles. (PCHS)

Pueblo County Historical Society has expanded it’s Western Saddle exhibit in the Heritage Center to include an attempt to replicate a saddle manufacturing shop utilizing some of the equipment donated to PCHS from the last saddle shop to produce saddles in Pueblo, Colorado. The exhibit includes a bench and hand tools used to process the leather, as well as a treadle punch set up to cut the rounded end of straps. Additional artifacts include a special sewing machine for leather and fur. The PCHS volunteers are working on restoration of a treadle driven heavy duty sewing machine which will round out the evolution from hand work to machines.

Part of the exhibit includes an old saddle being rebuilt. This affords the visitor an opportunity to see the different parts of a saddle.
